Cartwright is one of the newest communities in Bryan County on Hwy 75a near the Denison Dam. It is named for the US Congressman Wilburn Cartwright. Cartwright was established in 1939 when a community of workmen shelters was erected for the construction of the Denison Dam.

In addition to the Lake Texoma Recreation Area, Cartwright has some of the
best campgrounds anywhere in Oklahoma.
Burns Run East and Burns Run West Campgrounds are open for reservations from
April 1 through October 31. They have boat launching ramps, RV hookups,
designated campsites, sanitary dump, picnic area, restrooms, group shelter,
